There is a strong social side to the Penguin Club and we meet regularly to catch up on news and discuss theatre and life in general. We particularly welcome new members along to all our social events as these are a great way to get to know us outside of the theatre and find out more about what we do. We have a regular monthly meet-up outside of theatres, and we organise ad-hoc events throughout the year. Some of these have included punting, walking, cycling, bowling and we’re always open to suggestions for activities.
A much-anticipated annual event is our Christmas Dinner, which – due to the number of shows that take place in December – is held in early Spring!
First Wednesday drinks is our monthly social gathering in a Cambridge pub; as you might guess from its title it happens on the first Wednesday of each month. We’re easy to find in the pub as we’re the only table with a flock of toy Penguins! The book club meets on the second Tuesday of each month.
Ad-hoc socials are often based on suggestions from members. The most popular of these is “Theatre Thursday” where we arrange to go and watch a show from the auditorium.

Sign-Up events are held every so often to allow Penguins to discover what productions are coming up in our calendar, find out more about what is involved in each of them and connect with Producers, Directors and other Penguins in a relaxed, low pressure environment. Representatives from all of our upcoming shows will be in attendance to talk through their plans and hopefully start recruiting technical teams. We would encourage all Penguins to come along, whether you are looking for your next big role, hoping to sign up for your first show or just wanting to find out about what is in store for the Club over the next few months.
We typically begin with short, formal presentations from each of the productions advertising their show and the roles they are recruiting for, followed by a less structured period of Q&A and general mingling. There is no need to sign-up in advance for the event, just come along on the day to find out what the Club will be up to over the next few months. For those who haven’t been to the ADC before, entry to the bar is through the Box Office and up the stairs on the left.
